CLOCKWORK ORANGE, A

This bold, brilliant, immensely dark and unexpectedly entertaining vision from Kubrick stands as one of the most socially complex and important films of all-time. Through all the (ultra) violence, blood, rape and just downright nastiness of the film and the main character Alex (played beyond perfection by Malcolm McDowell) comes impossible laughs and an even more impossible entertainment. You can't take your eyes off of Kubrick's dystopian near future, with visuals that are part retro, part futuristic and part bonkers, even when your mind is telling you to look away from the horror on screen. The fact that it's also extremely funny is just the bizzare icing on the cake. A truly original, timeless societal allegory that hits home as much today as it did in 1971 (R.J. LaForce).
