CLUELESS

Is there any other film that has contributed more to our cultural vocabulary than CLUELESS? As if! In this fabulously teenaged adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma, Amy Heckerling captured the poppy zeitgeist of the '90s while also defining it with her whip smart satire of Beverly Hills youth. Alicia Silverstone was born to play the role of Cher, the endearingly sheltered heroine whose matchmaking efforts send her on a new path of self-awareness (which, it turns out, isn't too far from the mall). The supporting cast, including Paul Rudd, Breckin Meyer and Wallace Shawn, dazzles with comic brilliance while also giving substantial heart to the film. CLUELESS is truly a love letter to the '90s, and much like a Calvin Klein dress, it never goes out of style. (Sarah Pitre)
