GOLD RUSH, THE

Charlie Chaplin was the quintessential silent clown. THE GOLD RUSH, along with THE KID, marked the beginning of Chaplin's ascent from clown to artiste. Filled with an insane attention to detail, this is a love story by way of a Tex Avery cartoon, several years before Avery picked up a pencil. Chaplin often remarked that this was the film that he most wanted to be remembered for. It's easy to understand why. (Joseph A. Ziemba)
