SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE

I first watched Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance at the Sitges Film Festival in 2001. At the time I knew nothing about the movie, the soon to be legendary director Chan Wook Park and very little about the rich history of Korean cinema in general.  I was shattered by the film: brutal, delicate, funny, heartbreakingly tragic, beautiful and thrilling.  If you only hopped on the Park train at Oldboy, you owe it to yourself to see his true masterpiece, and the only movie of his I'm taking to the desert island.
